1. In case of short term debt funds inspite of the low risk, lower expense ratio and low AUM ; why is the NAV on the higher side (usually in thousands and it's multiples) 2. Kindly suggest a good Asset company in whom I can invest a lumpsum amount in short term debt fund for 1-2 years and then have a STP in its hybrid fund over next 5 years. Read More...

NAV of the fund is calculated by dividing the total net asset by the total number of units issued. It is not dependent on how much risk that funds are taking but yes AUM and expense ratio have an impact on NAV along with the number of units issued. For example, there are two funds  A and B, with a same total net asset value of 1cr but fund A has 1000 units issued while fund B has 10000 units issued so in this case, NAV of fund A will be 10,000 while NAV of fund B will be 1,000.  You can go with Franklin India Ultra Short Term Bond Fund Super Institutional Plan Read More...

Yes. Because when you are new and you see the volatility of mid cap and small caps, it might discourage you from staying invested. Also, a proper asset allocation is important, equities itself are highly risky, and there too you should not go with only the highest risk funds. There is a phrase High Risk - High Returns. This is the most misleading phrase as it is incomplete, High risk - High Returns/High Losses is the complete one.  Read More...

There has not been any conclusive evidence of this in Indian mutual fund industry. Where AUM can matter most is the small cap category, as a large AUM company can have difficulty in finding investing opportunities, this is the reason they stop taking new investments from time to time. Read More...
